MassBay Community College and the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra are delighted to announce their collaboration on a spectacular benefit concert, “Colors of Culture,” scheduled for Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 6:00 pm. The event will take place at MassBay Community College, located at 50 Oakland Street, Wellesley Hills.
As a non-profit organization with a rich history dating back to its founding in 1948, the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra has been a cornerstone of the local community for more than 75 years. Celebrating its 40th season as orchestra-in-residence at MassBay, the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra is thrilled to partner with the college on this special event.

“Colors of Culture” promises an enchanting evening of music from around the world, featuring captivating performances by the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra and special guests, the Fireside Barbershop Quartet. The concert repertoire will span various cultures and genres, showcasing the universal language of music.
Audiences can anticipate a diverse program, including Johann Strauss’s Overture to Die Fledermaus, Florence Price’s “Dances in the Canebrakes,” and Gabriela Ortiz’s evocative composition “Kauyumari,” inspired by Mexican folklore. The Fireside Barbershop Quartet will charm listeners with their vocal harmonies, adding a unique flair to the concert experience.
Following intermission, the program will continue with the second movement of Ludwig van Beethoven’s iconic 7th Symphony, Manuel de Falla’s spirited “Spanish Dance,” and selections from Georges Bize’s beloved opera, “Carmen.” Each piece promises to transport attendees on a musical journey filled with emotion and virtuosity.
Mark Latham, Music Director of the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra, expressed his excitement about the upcoming concert, stating, “To be present at a live music performance is a unique and wonderful experience. Tickets for the “Colors of Culture” benefit concert are priced at $100, with proceeds supporting both MassBay and the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra. Attendees are invited to enjoy a reception following the performance, where they can mingle with fellow music enthusiasts and artists.
