Elizabeth Chipman, age 91, died February 28, 2024 at Lakes of Litchfield Assisted Living. She was born in Worcester MA on March 20, 1932, and grew up in Framingham, which she always considered her hometown.
Betty graduated from Framingham High School, received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Framingham State University, and earned additional credits from FSU during the fifteen years after her retirement.
Her entire business career was devoted to the area of office administration and management, where she held positions with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, the Framingham Youth Guidance Center, and the Framingham School Committee.
She was predeceased by her parents and all of her five siblings. Having had no children of her own, she cherished her close and special relationships with her fourteen nieces and nephews.
During her early adult years, Betty served as organist at the Wesley Methodist and First Baptist Churches in Framingham. She was a tireless advocate for causes and activities in which she participated. Some of those were the teaching of business subjects to adult students at the Keefe Vocational School; the teaching of English as a Second Language to many Brazilian immigrants; serving as president of the Framingham Business and Professional Women’s club and other leadership positions in organizations having chapters in the Framingham area.
After a lifetime of snow and cold up north, she joined her southern family and became a resident of South Carolina. She lived at The Lakes of Litchfield in Pawleys Island, SC for 5 plus years and referred to it as “her house”. Betty developed many wonderful relationships and referred to the staff and other residents there as her family. She had a reputation for being the Queen of Trivia, a champion Poker Player, The President of the Residents Council, a detailed and proper woman who loved to teach and share her wisdom with all. She will be sorely missed.
