MetroWest Medical Center’s Advanced Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center celebrates its second anniversary with an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony as well as a free foot-screening clinic for the community.

“Reaching this two-year mark since the establishment of the Wound Care Center is very significant. It demonstrates our achievements of a steadily growing center with new and healed patients every week,” says John Whitlock, Chief Executive Officer of MetroWest Medical Center.

The center is at the forefront of wound care, demonstrated by incorporating advanced technology such as skin substitutes, compression therapy, wound vacuums (wound vacs), and hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy. These therapies do a combination of stimulate regeneration of tissues, facilitate optimal environments for cellular growth and assist an individual’s physiological needs for the best wound care outcome, and preservation of limbs.

The most effective treatment capability we have onboard is our HBO therapy chambers. This specialized treatment is an important adjunctive therapy for a number of approved indications, including but not limited to:

  • Diabetic foot ulcer management
  • Chronic osteomyelitis
  • Delayed radiation injury
  • Osteoradionecrosis
  • Preparation or preservation of compromised skin grafts/flaps

In 2022, the center saw 1,119 patients. This number more than doubled in 2023 to 2,464 visits. On top of this, we have had more than 700 completed HBO dives.

The center has recently added a new healing bell in which patients will ring letting the staff know they have successfully completed their treatment and can start their new chapter in life.
