Cornelia (Mueller) Hopkins, 89, formerly of Natick and Worcester, Mass., passed away in Fitchburg, Massachusetts on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 after a period of declining health.

Born in Boston, Cornelia (Connie) was the devoted wife of her late husband of 53 years, Richard Hopkins; devoted daughter of her late mother, Cornelia G. Mueller and father Josef C. Mueller; a wonderful mother to her two daughters and one son: Diane Fenzel of Fitchburg, Mass., and Gayle Hopkins of Marlborough, Mass., and the late Douglas Hopkins;  She was an awesome “Grandma” to her grandkids and great grandkids, who she loved “to the moon and back”: Jessica Fenzel and Noel Fenzel; great grandkids Damien Fenzel and Donica Goyette.  She leaves behind sister-in-laws, Elise Hopkins, Priscilla Mueller and many nieces and nephews. She was also the loving sister to the late Josef, Alan, and Ralph Mueller and her two son-in-laws Thomas Fenzel and David Hietala (Gayle).

Connie was raised in West Roxbury, Mass., and graduated from Roslindale High School in 1952. She married her lifelong love Richard in 1956, and they resided in Natick and Worcester for over 53 years.

Connie was a homemaker for many years. When her children were grown, she worked for over ten years for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and was known for her warm smile and friendliness toward everyone. At the same time, she also attained her Associate Degree in Medical Technology. During her life she enjoyed cooking, travelling, helping others, hiking, and walking on the beach. She was also an avid reader. Her brother graduated from Harvard University and its thought that she would have been the second Harvard graduate if she had been born in more modern times where women were more encouraged toward advanced education.

Generous and nurturing, Connie enjoyed nothing more than feeding and others.  She was a fabulous cook and her meals were delicious! But more than anything else Connie was a people person who loved spending time with family and friends. She had a heart of gold and always genuinely wished the best for others. Memories of Connie’s generosity, sense of humor, easy laughter, and kind heartedness will be deeply treasured by all those who loved her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart Failure Research Foundation (HFSA) of America, American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
