MassBay Community College is celebrating Disability Pride Month with an art exhibit that will be on display in the MassBay Wellesley Hills Library Atrium the entire month. The “Gateway to New Horizons” art show is displaying MassBay student’s artwork, as well as work from artists at Brookline’s internationally known Vinfen’s Gateway Arts. This art show honors the creative skills of artists with disabilities in our community and beyond. The “Gateway to New Horizons” takes viewers into all realms of thought and beauty from the natural world to fiber-based creations, views of the self, fantasy and more.
Gateway Arts is an internationally acclaimed studio art center, gallery, and store supporting meaningful lives and careers in art for adults with disabilities. Since 1973, Gateway Arts has nurtured the creative talents of artists with diverse diagnoses, strengths, and needs.
“Although Disability Pride Month is celebrated in July, not all of our students are here in the summer, so we are celebrating in March to ensure the community could participate with us. We are excited to welcome visitors of all abilities to our campus to enjoy this beautiful artwork,” said MassBay Director of Accessibility Resources, Phoebe Bustamante. “Our students pride themselves in being seen, and their reflection of the world around them through an artist’s lens is amazing. I hope the community will have an opportunity this month to stop in and see the exhibit.”
Students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to walk through and enjoy the beautiful artwork on display, which is in the Library Atrium (2nd floor) on the Wellesley Hills campus. Artwork by Gateway Art artists that is displayed in the exhibit can be purchased. This event is free and open to the public until Thursday, March 28, 2024.
