William I. Mayo, 61, of Marlborough and formerly Framingham, died unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, January 23, 2024. Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late Lewis & Elisabeth (Neal) Mayo, and the beloved husband of Robin (Higgins) Mayo of almost 35 years.
Bill was a graduate of Framingham South High School, and went on to graduate from Framingham State College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He also attended Fitchburg State College. Bill went on to enjoy a long career working with Farrell Pool service from 1986 to 2024, a job and colleagues he loved dearly.
Bill loved baseball and was a great left handed pitcher. He loved all sports really, and played hockey as well in his younger days. In his spare time he loved to bottle dig. He collected bottles and antiques. Spending time in Deer Isle and Wells, ME was a favorite of his as well.
Most of all, Bill loved spending time with his wife, family and friends. Besides his wife Robin, Bill is survived by his siblings, Lew Mayo & his wife Laura, Betty Lou Liberatore, his brothers in law James Higgins & his wife Shari, and John Higgins & his girlfriend Brandi Mancuso, his sisters in law, Suzanne Ryan, and Frances Rodgers & her husband Tyler, his nieces and nephews, William, Andy, John & his wife Amanda, Jen Calaraco & her husband Mike, Jeremy Sears & his wife Janet, Brian Smith & his wife Nicole, Scott Liberatore, Ashley Whitman, Teisha Colacchio & her husband Kyle, Kathleen Desjardin & her fiancé Mike, Danielle Higgins & her boyfriend Joe Coelho, James Higgins & his girlfriend Deirdre Dorion, Nicholas Ryan & his girlfriend Nikki Casagrande, Michael Ryan & his girlfriend Grace MacNeill, and Brandon Adams. Bill is also survived by 19 great nieces and nephews, as well as many other extended family, known to all as “Uncle Bill”.
Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his sister, Susan Smith, his mother in law, Elizabeth Higgins Carter, his father in law, James Higgins, and his step father in law, Robert Carter.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bill’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Sunday, January 28th from 12-3:30pm. A prayer service will begin at 3:30PM in the funeral home. Interment will be private. Bill’s family asks that those attending do so in casual attire.
