It is with great sadness that the family of James Edward Harrington announces he passed peacefully on December, 7, 2023, at the age of 77.
Born on July 19, 1946, in Somerville, MA, to Richard L. and Eileen M. (White) Harrington, Jimmy grew up in Somerville, MA. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eileen, to whom he was married for over 50 years. Jimmy graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in Boston, MA, Boston College (undergraduate), and Clarke University (Graduate).
He was a police officer with the city of Framingham for 31 years. Jimmy was a dedicated officer and cared exceptionally for the community he served and his fellow officers. He had several roles in the police department, including patrol officer, crime scene photographer, SCUBA team member, Member of the Mounted Unit, Community Policing, DARE Program advocate, Supervisor of Records Beaurea and Warrant Unit, and detective.
Knowing Jimmy means understanding that he loved his family more than words can say. He is survived by his loving children Amy H. Letichevsky and her husband Ian of Ashland, MA, James E. Harrington Jr. and his wife Melanie of Holliston, MA and Erin H. Ketzner and her husband Joseph of Middletown, DE, his beloved grandchildren Evan, Ty, and Sophie Letichevsky, Clancy, Rylie, Max, and Emerson Harrington, and Trey, Owen, Luke, and Everly Ketzner. He is also survived by his ten siblings: Richard and his wife Christina of Salem, Joanne Borghesi and her husband Thomas of CT, John and his late wife Paula of Reading, Mary Lyons and her husband Edward of Medford, Daniel and his wife Lori of Malden, David and his wife Cathy of Somerville, Eileen O’Connor and her husband Timothy of Bridgewater, Peter and his wife Amy of Bridgewater, Christopher and his wife Nettie of Winchendon, Patrice Harrington and her partner Lauren of Kingston, and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jimmy’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Tuesday, December 12th from 4-7PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Linus Church, 119 Hartford St. Natick on Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Natick.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Jimmy’s name to: the Framingham Police Association to help continue their mission of supporting many local charities.
