Jean Lindsey (Taylor) Burr of Framingham, MA passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 25th, 2023, at age 94.

Jean was born on December 11th, 1929, to the late Evelyn and Raymond Taylor.  She spent most of her life in Framingham- she even grew up on Concord Street in one of the oldest homes in town. Jean went on to meet her soulmate in high school and married Tom Burr at Grace Congregational Church in 1951. Jean was overjoyed to be Tom’s wife and eventually a title she was most proud of, Mom.  Her daughter, Barbara, was not only her pride and joy, but one of her closest friends. The family of three enjoyed many adventures together, including Scout activities.

Jean was a proud graduate of Northeastern University and spent many years at Annex Shade Shop, working alongside her husband.  Jean also spent time as an Administrator of Woodside Cottages Nursing Home, and worked at H&R Block, preparing taxes.  Even when Jean retired, she remained active, helping launch ReFoamIt®, a foam recycling business started by her daughter and son-in-law.

Jean had a giving heart and always found ways to enrich her community by staying active in several social and civic organizations. Jean was a proud member of Grace Congregational Church and Edwards Congregational Church.  She was always organizing something – a neighborhood block party, a church dinner, gathering friends to take a bus trip travel adventure, leading a Girl Scout troop, gardening, and making relishes and jams.  Jean was a pioneer when it came to being environmentally friendly; she was an early composter and recycler – before it became “the thing to do”.  She always hung her laundry out to dry, helped create a recycling process for Styrofoam® and was among the first wave of Prius drivers.  She inherited her mother’s love of US history – linked particularly to Marblehead Seafarers – and was involved in DAR as both a member and treasurer for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Tom, grandson, Andy Kobbs, her parents Evelyn and Raymond Taylor, her brother Doug Taylor, his wives, Floris and Helen, and her special friend Leo Mogan.  Her son-in-law, Dave, recently passed away.

Jean is survived by her beloved daughter Barbara, her step grandchildren; Scott, Kathy, Andrew, and Matthew (Lisa). She was close to two nieces, Diane Vaughn & Susan Taylor.

It was Jean’s wish to have a celebration instead of a funeral, so the family is planning just that; a celebration of 94 wonderful years. Please join Jean’s family and friends on Monday, October 23rd, 2023, at Edwards Congregational Church, 39 Edwards Street, Framingham at 2:00 pm to reminisce about Jean and celebrate all that is Jean Lindsey Burr.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s honor, may be made to Project Just Because, 77 South Street, Hopkinton, Edwards Congregational Church, or to any charity of your choice.
