FRAMINGHAM – Saturday, April 15, marks the 10th anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing

“I want to remember the victims and survivors of the Boston Marathon tragedy,” said City of Framingham Mayor Charlie Sisitsky. “Every year on April 15, we commemorate the strength of Boston, Framingham, and all the communities along the marathon route that came together in the face of that horrific attack.”

Framingham is one of eight communities along the Boston Marathon Route.

Three individuals were killed on April 15, 2013 and more than 200 were injured when two brothers set bombs off near the finish line in Boston.

Mayor Sisitsky said he was at the finish line on April 15, 2013.

“Robin, her daughter, Blair and I were at the finish line when the bombs went off on that horrific afternoon,” said Mayor Sisitsky. “Robin’s son Eric was running as part of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge Team, and as we kept checking his times, he was due to cross the finish line at the exact time that the bombs went off. Until we were finally able to reach him, we were unaware, yet incredibly grateful that he had stopped to talk with friends as he was less than .5 miles from the finish line.”

“The chaos that ensued, along with the hours that lingered until we were able to reunite with Eric has left an indelible mark on all of us. It is hard to believe that 10 years ago that one tragic day in the history of Boston truly changed our lives.” said City of Framingham Mayor.

“A decade later, the scars of that terrorist attack remain for some. It is important to focus on the strength and resiliency of those individuals impacted by that tragic day, and to spread acts of kindness on Saturday, April 15, to show that love can conquer hate,” said Mayor Sisitsky.

“I encourage residents of Framingham to do an act of kindness on #OneBostonDay, Saturday, April 15,” said the Mayor.
