FRAMINGHAM – Today, April 13 was the first unified track meet of the season for the Flyers.
Framingham battled Wellesley high on the track and in field events, including long jump, shot put & javelin.
Unified Sports teams join individuals with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team.
It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding, according to Special Olympics.
In Unified Sports, teams are made up of people of similar age and ability.
Framingham High started its unified sports program five years ago with basketball, and then expanded it to track & field.
Both teams are coaches by Mike Tarlin. Today, he was assisted by track & field coaches Chris Collins and Ed Crowley.
