FRAMINGHAM – MetroWest Medical Center (MWMC) employees collected more than 60 coats and accessories for local families in need through a coat drive.

The families receiving the coats are from the local MetroWest area.

The families will all now be able to stay a little warmer this winter. Both Framingham Union Hospital and Leonard Morse Hospital employees participated in the drive.

The hospital’s January coat drive is in honor of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

With MLK Day celebrated this month, the hospital staff wanted to find a way to give back to the community in his name.  In addition, MLK Day is the only Federal holiday that’s also designated by Congress as a National Day of Service – a “day on, not a day off,” to encourage all Americans to volunteer and provide meaningful change in their communities.
