NORTHBOROUGH – According to the 2021 State of the Period, 1 in 5 students in the United States experience period poverty on a monthly basis.

Community A.C.T.S., Northborough Junior Woman’s Club and ARHS Girls Up is partnering with a small woman-owned business, Fihri, to host a Period Palooza- period kit making event on January 31 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Church in Northborough.

Each kit includes a reusable pouch, organic pads and panty liners, biodegradable pads and panty liners, organic tampons with applicator and without applicators. $10 per kit will help a menstruator for 1 month. These kits will be donated to Northborough schools, The Northborough Food Pantry and the Northborough Library.

Period poverty is known as the lack of access to menstrual care products, hygiene, and education surrounding menstruation. This is an issue prevalent for many globally, and even here in Massachusetts.

The public is welcome to attend and learn about the groups involved, see how a Period Palooza is done and learn more about period poverty. Community A.C.T.S. is a group for children and teens to come together and provide community service in the MetroWest area. It is youth-led and meets every other Tuesday at Trinity Church in Northborough.
