BOSTON – The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Thursday, January 5 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The federal agency said there will be areas of light freezing rain and freezing drizzle.

Total ice accumulations is of a light glaze, said the national Weather Service.

Light rain showers will transition to areas of light freezing rain and freezing drizzle until 1 p.m. Thursday.

On Thursday, Maura Healey will be sworn in as as the next Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She is the first LGBTQ Governor of Massachusetts and the first woman to be elected as Governor. Jane Swift served as the first Governor after former Gov. Paul Cellucci resigned for an ambassadorship.

On Thursday night, Gov. Healey and newly-elected Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll will hold an inauguration celebration at TD Garden in Boston.

This is the first time two women have held the top spots in the Commonwealth.

Areas of light freezing rain and freezing drizzle may continue Thursday afternoon into the evening.

Very slippery sidewalks, roads and bridges are possible.

Slow down and use caution while traveling.

Prepare for possible power outages.
