FRAMINGHAM – The City of Framingham has hired a Marine as its new Veterans Services Assistant.

Jennifer Sawvelle, a U.S. Marine, comes to the City of Framingham from the Veterans Northeast Outreach Center.

She started December 12 and will work under Veterans Services Director Kathleen Lang.

Hired in 2021, Lang is a Vietnam-era U.S. Army Veteran.

The City of Framingham Veterans Department is now led by two women.

“She is very familiar with claims and engaging with Veterans. She is already proving to be a great asset,”said Lang, introducing Sawvelle to the Framingham Veterans Council yesterday.

The Veterans Council held a 30-minute meeting on Wednesday, and all three new members were in attendance.

“Hiring Jennifer will allow this office to provide more outreach to assisted living centers, nursing home facilities as well as more time to engage with our community partners,” which include the Callahan Center, Meals on Wheels, BayPath Elder Services, and Springwell, said Lang.

Lang announced at the Council meeting that the Veterans Department will hold a Veterans Coffee Hour monthly at the Framingham Public Library”s Christa McAuliffe Branch the third Friday of the month. The first coffee is scheduled for February 17, 2023 at 10 a.m.
