Dr. Andrew L. Soma, 96, a life-long resident of Framingham, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 25, 2022.

Born in Framingham he was the beloved son of Attilio and Carolina (Ponti) Soma.

Andy graduated from Framingham High School in 1944. Throughout his undergraduate years he was a three-sport athlete in high school and an exemplary student who was also involved in student government.  

After high school he served in the United States Navy until he was honorably discharged in June 1946.

He then attended Tufts University and Dental School culminating in a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry. While completing a dental internship in New York he met and married his loving wife of 41 years, Carolyn Jane Schumacher on January 2, 1954. He went on to practice dentistry for nearly 40 years while he and mom raised their 8 children. 

Andy was an active outdoorsman.   He enjoyed biking, hiking, skiing, golfing, and sailing well into his 90’s.  He also attained his private pilot license and would often pack his bike into his plane and fly to various areas in New England for several hours of bike riding before flying home.  He, mom, and the children enjoyed many summers in Falmouth MA, while Andy travelled back and forth between Framingham and Falmouth for work. 

Andy is survived by his children Jean and Pete Baldwin of Gilbert AZ, Christine and John Palmer of Middletown RI, Patricia Soma and Jay Conti of Grafton MA, Andrea and Dr. Donald Snyder of Indianapolis IN, Michael Soma of Framingham MA, Stephen Soma of Franklin MA, Andrew and Gayle Soma of Natick MA and Maria Soma of Medway MA.  He is also blessed to have many grandchildren and great grandchildren who he adored.

Besides his parents, Andy is predeceased by his loving wife Carolyn, his brother Paul, and his sister Maria. 

Family and friends will honor and remember Andrew’s life by celebrating his Funeral Mass on Friday morning, December 30 in St. Tarcisius Church, 562 Waverly St. Framingham at 10 o’clock.

Interment will follow in St. Tarcisius Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Andy’s name to the charity of your choice.
