ASHLAND – A transformer exploded just before 5 tonight, knocking out power on Route 135 in Ashland, and bringing down wires on the road.

The transformer is near the Community Center on Route 135

Avoid Route 135 and seek alternate routes.

Eversource was reporting about 320 customers without power just before 5 p.m.

At 5:20 p.m. Eversource is reporting more than 1,000 customers without power or about 12% of the community.

“A transformer was damaged when high winds from the storm blew through Ashland at about 4:30 this afternoon, causing outages in the area,” said an Eversource spokesperson to SOURCE. “Our crews have been on scene working to assess the damage and make repairs as quickly as safely possible to approximately 800 customers.”

At 7:15 p.m., more than 900 customers were without power in Ashland
