FRAMINGHAM – During the Spicer administration, a change was made to close City Hall on Friday at 2 p.m. instead of 5 p.m. all year round.

Now, the Sisitsky administration wants to close City Hall on Fridays even earlier, starting December 30.

Mayor Charlie Sisitsky met with his division heads on yesterday, December 14, and said he plans to close City Hall at 12:30 p.m. on Fridays, starting December 30.

This would not impact the police and fire stations. It would also not impact the Framingham Public Library, which is open until 5 p.m. on Fridays.

But it will impact the City Clerk’s office for birth certificates and licenses, and it would impact the tax collector’s and Treasurer’s office, where residents pay bills.

“For the past several months, I have been discussing the work hours at City Hall with employees including department heads, and everyone indicated to me that they would prefer to adjust the working hours to enable employees to leave work at 12:30 pm on Fridays instead of 2:00 pm,” wrote the Mayor to the City Council last night.

“This would be accomplished by reducing their lunch time to ½ hour on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; no lunch break on Friday, and two ½ hour breaks on Tuesday, when the work day ends at 7 pm. This new schedule would maintain the 37.5 hour work week as it is currently.”

“I presented this plan to Division heads at today’s monthly meeting and it was very well received. I propose to make this change effective the last week of this calendar year, so the first Friday that will have the new hours will be December 30,” wrote the Mayor to the City Council.

Once an email goes to the full 11-member City Council it is a public document. SOURCE media obtained multiple copies of the email.
