FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham High boys swim & diver team has the smallest and youngest team since Framingham had a North and South high school, said head coach Ron Pereira.

Keefe Technical High School announced earlier this spring that its pool would not open for high school teams in the 2022-23 season, and Framingham boys are without a home pool now.

The Framingham High girls swim team, that competes in the fall season, were lucky to get pool time and have home meets at Wayland’s community pool. But the boys team, that competes in the winter season will have all of its meets on the road.

The Flyers do have practices at the Wayland pool on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays, and Fridays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., said the Flyers head coach.

“We supplement pool time with dry land exercises at the high school and Wellness center,” said Pereira. “Helpful, but NOT as good as swimming.”

The no-cut sport, has just 17 swimmers and divers this season, said Pereira.

Captains for the 2022-23 season are seniors.Ethan Pham, Doug Burke, CJ Crocker, and Ed Gao.

“All our swimmers swim multiple events,” said Coach Pereira. “With this years small numbers, it is important that they are versatile.”

“Ethan is more of a sprint free styler,” said the head cocah.

“CJ swims middle distance and backstroker,” said Coach Pereira.

“Doug is our returning diver,” said Coach Pereira. “One of the leagues better divers.”

“and “Ed is our breast stroke record holder,” said Coach Pereira.

“They ALL swim multiple events,” said the head coach.

“Our only other senior is Ryan McLoughlin, who is also a multiple event swimmer,” said Coach Pereira.

“Filling out our team will be returning swimmers Brandon Liu, Joshua Peace, Sam Shi, and Nick Swan,” said the head coach.

They will be joined by newcomers: Juan Catao, Vincent Chaves, Benjamin Clayton, Ben Crocker, Noah Farhadian, Kanwardeep Singh and Zachary Stieglitz.

We do not have a pool to host swim meets, so all our meets will be away, said the head coach.

“The closest thing to a home meet will be at Wayland December, 14 against Wayland and Boston Latin.  That will also be our first meet,” said Coach Pereira.

“We are working hard and ready to accept the challenge before us,” said Coach Pereira. “We will be “Road Warriors.”
