FRAMINGHAM – Keefe Technical High School had 26 girls try out for its basketball programs, with 12-15 on junior varsity and the rest of the girls on the sub-varsity team, said Coach and Assistant Principal Ken Collins.

The team had their first scrimmage earlier this week, and have their season opener next week against Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School in Fitchburg.

The first home game for the Broncos is on December 20 against Parker Charter at 3:30 p.m.

The scrimmage against Abby Kelley “was a great test for us, and was a good prep for our first game against Monty Tech next week,” said Coach Collins.

There is only one senior on the squad, Schlonande Gelin.

She is a “presence on the defensive end and our leading rebounder,” said Coach Collins. “Her leadership skills will be imperative to the success of the team this year.”

Some returning players from last year’s squad, who will play a huge role this year, will be Yanitza Franco and Maggie Steiner, said Coach Collins.

“We will look to both to run our offense and put the ball in the basket,” said Coach Collins.

“Ellie Teixeira and Bino Silva are the heart and hustle of the team, and set the tone in practice every day,” said the head coach.

“We have a strong freshman class led by Nychelle Jaramillo, who comes to the Keefe team with a lot of basketball experience,” said Coach Collins.
