First responders described a chaotic scene after the SUV driven by Rein crashed through the window of a busy Apple store in Hingham at the Derby Street Shops around 10:45 a.m., said Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz.
A dark-colored SUV smashed through the store’s window at an undetermined speed and hit multiple people, said the District Attorney.
“First responders found coworkers and other bystanders rendering first aid to multiple victims in need of urgent care,” said the DA’s office in a press release.
People were injured in front of the store and inside it, including victims who were pinned against the wall by the vehicle, said the Hingham Fire Chief Steve Murphy.
Seven fire engines and 14 ambulances responded to the scene at the shopping plaza.
South Shore Hospital was treating 17 patients for life- and limb-threatening injuries.
