FRAMINGHAM – Non-profit Operation Warm distributed a free, new winter coat to every student at McCarthy Elementary School yesterday morning, November 17.

Every student from kindergarten through grade 5 picked out the coat of their choice of those in the school’s gym yesterday.

With help from volunteers from TJX Companies, each student picked up a coat and tried it on to make sure it fit perfectly.

Operation Warm provides warmth, confidence, and hope through basic need programs that connect underserved children to community resources they need to thrive, said Kylie O’Donoghue, with Operation Warm.

“We gave away over 550 coats today,” said O’Donoghue to SOURCE media. “We are serving the entire school thanks to TJX.”

Operation Warm’s mission has always been focused on the whole child, said O’Donoghue.

Our tagline is ‘more than a coat’ means that the coats and shoes we provide don’t just provide physical warmth, but also emotional warmth, the confidence to socialize and succeed, and hope of a brighter future, she added.

“We are so appreciative and thankful for this outpouring of generosity,” said Cynthia Page, Principal of McCarthy Elementary School. “Not only will our students be kept warm traveling to and from McCarthy school each day, they will know they are a part of a larger, kind, caring and supportive community.”

According to the state, more than 66% of the students at the K-5 school are considered low income.

The organization has been around for more than 2 decades.
