FRAMINGHAM – The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Medal of Liberty was presented to Technical Sergeant Grenville Charles Baker on Veterans Day 2022.

In total, 10 medals of Liberty were awarded on Veterans Day in Nevins Hall in the Memorial Building, with five of the Gold Star families in attendance.

Baker once lived on Route 9 Framingham and he was drafted into the United States Army Air Corps.

Technical Sergeant Baker was a radio operator on a SB-24D Liberator (Serial #42-40633) attached to the 868th Bomber Squadron, Heavy in the United States Army Air Forces when he went missing in the Southwest Pacific area. They were sent on a bombing mission to the Rabaul Area and never returned to the base for an unknown reason.

Technical Sergeant Baker gave the ultimate sacrifice on March 11, 1944, and he was presumed dead on January 24, 1946.

The City of Framingham will send the Medal of Liberty to his nephew, Robert Baker, from Arroyo Grande, California.
