FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham City Council voted tonight, November 1, to approve Mayor Charlie Sisitsky’s selection of Jesse Edwards to be his administration’s Chief Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion officer.

The vote was unanimous at 11-0

Edwards, who is currently employed at Framingham State University, previously worked for the City of Worcester and UMass Memorial Medical Center.

Edwards has been the Associate Director for equal opportunity and the Title IX Coordinator at the University since April of 2021.

From June 2013 to 2020, Edwards was the Director Diversity & Equal Opportunity Deputy and Title IX coordinator for UMass Medical School.

From January 2008 to 2013, he was the Director of the Executive Office of Economic and Neighborhood Development Youth Opportunities office for the City of Worcester.

Prior to that, Edwards was the Vice President of Operations for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lowell for 5 years.

Edwards is a PhD candidate at the University of Massachusetts Boston

He received a Master’s degree from Springfield College in 1999 and his Bachelor’s of Science degree from Rivier University in 1995.

The City of Framingham’s first-ever Chief Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Officer Maritsa Barros submitted her resignation after less than one year in November 2021. She took a job in the City of Revere.
