ASHLAND – A large crowd attended the Town of Ashland and Ashland Indians Festival of Lights celebration at The Corner Spot this afternoon, October 16.

The Festival of Lights, Diwali, is a major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs.

The Festival symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.”

During the multi-hour event, there was food, music, performances, and dancing.

Ashland Town Manager Michael Herbert attended the festival, and participated in Dandiya, a folk dance with sticks.

Ashland Planning Board member Katie Jurczyk said the celebration at the Corner Spot is one of her favorite events in the community.

On display were Rangoli, a popular form of Indian sand paintings.
