FRAMINGHAM – Robert Downing has followed in his parents’ footsteps and joined the police department.

Officer Robert Downing graduated from the police academy on Friday, September 30, and was sworn in as a Framingham Police Officer by City Clerk Lisa Ferguson in a ceremony at Nevins Hall in the Memorial Building, yesterday morning, October 3.

After taking the oath, new Framingham Police Officer Downing had his parents retired City of Revere Police Officer Bernadette Downing Framingham Police Lieutenant Robert F. Downing pin on his badge.

“Officer Downing has always desired to be a police officer. He looks up to his many family members that have served their communities. He is graciously following in their footsteps especially his fathers as he joins him in serving Framingham and its residents,” said Lt. Ruiz on Monday.

Officer Downing was one of four new officers sworn in on October 3.

Born and raised in the City of Framingham, Officer Downing attended elementary through high school with the Framingham Public School system. He played
many sports while growing up in Framingham, and has made many connections with community members.

After graduating from Framingham High, he attended MassBay Community College where he has been working towards his degree in
Criminal Justice. Now that he has completed his training, he plans on enrolling into a four-year college to complete his goal of attaining his Master’s Degree.
