SUDBURY – Sudbury Police are alert residents to a Bitcoin scam that spoofs the Sudbury Police departments’ phone number.

“We have received a report of a scam threatening in nature spoofing our phone number 978-443-1042 and our Chief’s name to obtain money through a Bitcoin machine. Please note, this is a scam, if you receive a similar call, do not answer. We will never call you and ask for money,” wrote Sudbury Police on social media.

“The caller will use threats, urgency and tactics that may scare you. Please call the Sudbury Police if you have any questions- and never pay anyone in Bitcoin unless it’s of your own free will,” recommended Sudbury Police on facebook.
