NEWTON – The Framingham High girls soccer team opened the season on the road and came home with a 3-0 victory over the Tigers of Newton North on Thursday, September 8.

Framingham is now 1-0 this season, under head coach Jen DeFusco.

Fifteen minutes into the game, Summer Haarala drove from the 50-yard line beating her defender to the 6-yard box. She took a low shot that was blocked by the diving goalie, who from the ground was not able to hold on to the ball.

Haarala then striped the ball from her and dodged around the last defender to score the Flyers first goal of the season, which would be the eventual game winner.

Twelve minutes later, Gabby Arpino took a shot from the corner sneaking the ball between the defender and the post, inches from the goal line. In the crowd, Kasey Kopaz got her foot on it and shot it in net to increase the Flyers lead 2-0.

With 10 minutes left in the game, Lucy Keane flicked the ball from the left side of the goal to Haarala, who delivered it right in front of the net for Sophia Wendt, who scored the Flyers third and final goal of the game.
