FRAMINGHAM – Framingham State University announced today, September 6, finance executive Mariel Freve and nonprofit leader Lino Covarrubias have been appointed to the University’s volunteer Board of Trustees.

Freve brings to the Board a wealth of experience in finance and accounting leadership roles. She is currently the Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer for Sensata Technologies based out of Attleboro.

Covarrubias is the Chief Executive Officer for Jewish Family Services (JFS) of MetroWest, a nonprofit family and community services agency. Prior to his time with JFS, Covarrubias was a U.S. Naval Officer with 22 years of active service. He is a first-generation son of Mexican immigrants.

The 11-member FSU Board of Trustees is made up of leaders from the regional business and nonprofit community and is dedicated to advancing the vast opportunities offered by the University to its students. The Board assists President Nancy Niemi and her leadership team to strategically improve, develop, and strengthen Framingham State University.

“I’m thrilled to have Ms. Freve and Mr. Covarrubias join our Board of Trustees,” said President Niemi. “They are forward-thinking leaders in their respective fields who care deeply about the MetroWest community. I will be drawing upon their guidance and perspectives as we increase our enrollment and successfully educate our students by enhancing Framingham State’s position as the proudly public university serving the public good in heart of the Commonwealth.”

Governor Charlie Baker’s Office of Boards and Commissions is responsible for appointing trustee members and approved Freve and Covarrubias based upon the recommendation of Framingham State University.
