SHERBORN – Sonia Goldsmith, 97, died peacefully at home on August 31, 2022.

Longtime resident of Sherborn, she is predeceased by her husband George and son Peter, and survived by her daughters Lynn Goldberg and Laurie Goldsmith, and her son Robert Goldsmith.  Also surviving her are six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was a graduate of the University of Vermont (Phi Beta Kappa) in economics, and received her masters degree in early childhood education from Boston College.

A lifelong student, she never tired of reading and learning new things.  Even when her sight was failing, she listened to audiobooks until her final days.

Sonia was an active member of the Sherborn community for over 50 years.  She was a dedicated elementary school teacher at Center and Pine Hill schools and, in retirement, a strong advocate for the elderly, serving on the boards of BayPath Elder Services and the Sherborn Council on Aging.

With her love of people and involvement in the community, she made an abundance of friends through her participation in Democratic politics, the Book Club, and the Sherborn Community Players.

She will be remembered fondly for her warmth and generosity, her laughter and good humor, and her ever-sunny disposition.

Funeral Services Private.

Gifts in her memory may be made to the Perkins School for the Blind, 175 N Beacon St. Watertown, MA. 02472.
