FRAMINGHAM – Lee Chester Garron of Framingham, better known as Chet, but also known as pops, grandpops, and coach, passed away at age 83 on August 23, 2022.

He was born on November 8, 1938, in Marks, Mississippi and was the second oldest of 10 brothers and sisters. He and his family moved from MS to Argo, IL where he spent most of his youth and teenage years. Chet then moved to Boston.

There he earned his Master’s degree from Cambridge College and went on to hold many professional positions: police officer for the Town of Natick, Vice President of EEO for Digital Equipment Corporation, EEO Officer for the city of New Bedford, and Office Administrator for Keystone Corporation.

Chet was also a very gifted athlete. He played semi-professional football for the Marlborough Shamrocks, as a running back and defensive back. He shared his love for football by coaching for many years at the Pop-Warner level and High School level.

Along with football, Chet was an avid golfer. He would play daily and made a point to find a golf course anywhere he traveled to. He loved coaching golf at Framingham High School.

As an adult, he led Digital Equipment Corp. basketball and golf teams to championships.

In his leisure time, if he wasn’t playing golf or watching golf on TV, you could find him watching some western movies. He had a love for cowboys and the outdoors, which he shared with all 9 of his children. He often brought them fishing, camping, or out for some target practice. He was a storyteller and loved sharing stories of his past.

He is survived by his children, shared with former wife Eileen (Creed) Garron: Kimberly Kelleher, Shane and wife Pia, Courtney Lamb and Raheim Lamb, Jennifer Wood and husband Matt, and Kevin Garron. As well as his children shared with former wife, Barbara (Harris) Garron: Timothy Garron and wife Alicia, Christopher Garron and wife Colleen, Steven Garron (wife Charlotte predeceased), and Donald Garron and wife Ann Marie. Chet has 12 grandchildren: Bryce, Taylor, Aiden, Steven, Kyle, Jayden, Aidan, Alia, Myles, Jacoby, Zanna, and Cora. His surviving siblings: Verlean Hinton, Troy and wife Marilyn, Donald and wife Pam, Norris and wife Celeste, and Solomon.

Chet was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence Garron and Savannah (Sykes) Garron, his sisters Shirley and Brenda, and his brothers Mickey and Lawrence Jr.

Services will be private, and a Memorial Celebration will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association at diabetes.org
