FRAMINGHAM – An election is underway in Framingham. You can vote by absentee/mail-in ballot, early voting or on 9/6/22. Just make sure you vote for Margareth Shepard for State Representative.

You may remember that when Margareth ran for Framingham City Council in 2017 Attorney General Maura Healy endorsed her. Healy said, “a tireless advocate for the Brazilian community, Margareth will bring that same level of passion and commitment to work for Framingham as a member of the City Council.” Healy was right. Margareth was elected twice to the City Council. She played a critical role in getting Framingham’s new form of government up and running, and she advocated endlessly to make sure Framingham had critical resources throughout the pandemic. As a multilingual, hearing-impaired mom and business owner, she is a passionate, relentless advocate for Framingham.

The headlines roared when Margareth became the first Brazilian elected to a City Council in the U.S. Now she is the only candidate in this race who has been a working parent of kids who attended the Framingham schools and who helps provide care for her parents so they can age in place. She will continue building on what is already an impressive track record of effectively advocating for students, working parents, business owners, the disabled, immigrants, and the elder population. She focuses on what the residents of Framingham want and need – holding steady even under political pressure to change course. She forges forward, overcomes adversity, and gets results.

I have no reservations about endorsing Margareth because I know from first-hand experience how she works. We were both Framingham Town Meeting members and she was on the Ways and Means Committee when I was the Chair. I depended on her to contribute to the committee’s work and to follow through. She always did. She and I also worked together as state and regional appointees on the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women which is charged with advocating for women. Margareth always rises to meet challenges and then breaks down barriers to make it easier for others along the way.

Legislators on Beacon Hill already know Margareth and they are looking forward to working with her in the House of Representatives. Wherever you live in Framingham you are directly impacted by the work of each and every one of Framingham’s State Representatives. The best choice for Framingham in this election is Margareth Shepard. She has a proven track record of excellent work and she always has our backs. That’s exactly what we need in the house!
