FRAMINGHAM – Hoops & Homework has received a $150,000 donation from the Flatley Co. said its founded Herb Chasan.

Launched in 2012, Hoops and Homework is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

Hoops and Homework Inc. was incorporated as a non-profit 501c3 charity in December 2014 in order to continue to provide after-school services at two locations in South Framingham at Interfaith Terrace and Pusan Road.

Private donations and grants have made it possible to sustain the program, said Chasan.

Chasan said the $150,000 will be used for expansion of the program.

Plans for the future include 

  • Opening a full day childcare center for 3 and 4 year old kids that is affordable for low income families utilizing a scholarship program, 
  • Starting a Teen Center with programs especially targeted for teens, such as :Provide life skills, vocational/career guidance, pre/post-employment support and job placement, promote positive youth development, and playing sports.

  • Operating a new after school and summer program in another  needy, low income  neighborhood and
  • Building a full day community center in the lowest income area of Framingham to serve adults and children. The goal is to provide services to overcome barriers to the basic resources that increase self-sufficiency and improve the quality of life for the community’s most vulnerable individuals. Basic resources may include: food security, housing, healthcare, employment and child care.
