WESTON – Former Assistant Attorney General and candidate for Massachusetts Attorney General Quentin Palfrey today, August 17, rolled out his comprehensive agenda for how as Attorney General he will address many of the racial and economic disparities in our criminal legal system, and promote public safety that truly makes Massachusetts a safe place for all.

“We imprison too many people for too long for doing too little. Race has too much to do with who ends up in our criminal justice system,” said Palfrey. “We cannot arrest and incarcerate our way out of social problems. Instead, we must directly tackle structural racism, intergenerational poverty, and economic inequality.”

Palfrey’s extensive plan covers several areas where the Attorney General can have a great impact on the criminal legal system and public safety. These include ending harsh sentencing practices, increasing police accountability, protecting immigrant communities, ending the war on drugs with equitable and treatment based policies, and ensuring fair conditions in Massachusetts correctional facilities.

“Should I have the honor of serving as the next Attorney General,” said Palfrey, “reforming the criminal legal system is a challenge I would take on with great urgency as a critical step towards breaking down barriers of structural racism, and building a public safety system that works for all Massachusetts residents.”

Palfrey is a former Assistant Attorney General and was the first chief of the office’s healthcare division. He also served in senior roles in both the Obama and Biden Adiminstations, and is the founder of the Voter Protection Corps, an organization that works to combat voter suppression. In the race for AG, Palfrey is the endorsed candidate of the Massachusetts Democratic Party, several of Massachusetts leading progressive and environmental advocacy organizations, and over 300 grassroots endorsers from communities in every county in the Commonwealth.
