FRAMINGHAM – Erika Joy Goldberg (nee Zazofsky) died on July 10, 2022.

Born November 24, 1944, she was the daughter of the late George and Edith Zazofsky (nee Gomberg). She leaves behind her husband, Dr. Stephen Kurland, and her brother, Peter Zazofsky, and was predeceased by her brother, Gene.

Erika, or Riki, as those who knew her called her fondly, grew up in both Newton and Stockbridge, spending summers at Mahkeenac Shores and at Tanglewood while her father played for the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She would remember fondly her times growing up down by the lake with all of the other “orchestra brats” as she put it.

Married in 1969 to her first husband, Steven, she had three children who were her proudest achievement, besides her ERIKAR license plate.

Erika became the State’s first certified official voice reporter, working for the Superior Court in Middlesex. She was known in the courts not only for her soft voice work, and quick transcript turnaround, but also for letting defendants know what she thought of them in her subtle “Crime Doesn’t Pay” sweater.

Riki was remarried in 2003 to Dr. Stephen Kurland, and they built their home in Framingham.

Working until 2018 they took as many vacations as time would allow traveling from the Galapagos Islands to Prague and Iceland. But the Berkshires was never far from her mind, and every summer you could find her down by the dock, reading a book in an Adirondack chair, or cheerfully yelling hello to a neighbor. She will be remembered for her unique fashion sense – she never met a bold print, fabric, or big necklace that she didn’t like. Her family will also miss her caring, giving heart. If she could help someone, she would.

She is also survived by her three children, Adam (Angie), Jaimi (Allyson), and Becky (Dave), as well as her seven grandchildren who would make too much noise in the cottage, but she wouldn’t have it any other way, Johnathan, Peter, Olivia, Aria, Alex, Charlotte and Andrew; as well as her stepchildren, Scott (Candice), and Jackie (Sean), and their children, Jacob, Sydney, and Brynne. She also leaves behind her ex-husband, Steven Goldberg, with whom she always stayed friends, and his wife, Patricia Papernow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association so that no other family has to watch a loved one battle this awful disease.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Richard Perlman of the Miles Funeral Home, Holden. www.milesfuneralhome.com
