Christa McAuliffe Charter Names Interim Director

FRAMINGHAM – The Christa McAuliffe Charter School in Framingham announced the hiring of an interim Director today, June 16.

“On behalf of the McAuliffe Board of Trustees, I am very pleased to announce the hiring of our new Interim Executive Director, Frederick Randall,” announced Trustee Chair Bob Berman.

Randall has served as the Principal/Interim Executive Director at the Sizer School in Fitchburg, as well as School Director at the Collegiate Charter School of Lowell. He has also served in the Wakefield Public Schools, Dover Sherborn Regional Schools, and Shrewsbury Public Schools in administrative roles. He holds a Master of Education degree from Lesley College.

“While we had a deep and qualified pool of candidates to choose from, Mr. Randall rose to the top based on his strong work experience and clear passion for education, middle school in particular,” said Berman.

Randall officially starts in the position on July 1.

He will replace Executive Director Frank Tipton who was hired in April 2020.

He replaces Kristin Harrison, who had was the director of the school for a decade.

“We are very excited to have Frederick Randall join us as the Interim Executive Director, he brings significant experience working in administrative roles at Massachusetts Public Charter Schools where he has had great success at every level. We are lucky to have him join us at McAuliffe and we are excited to see where he takes the school into the future,” said Trustee Chair Berman.

“The opportunity to join the McAuliffe Charter School as their new Interim Executive Director is a career dream come true for me. All of my years as a middle school coach, tutor, special education teaching assistant, classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal and charter leader have prepared me to take on this critical role. I am excited and can’t wait to get started”,” said Randall.

“I love McAuliffe’s deep commitment to EL Education; I strongly believe it is the perfect fit for middle school learners,” said Randall.

“My wife’s uncle, Joe Clinton, was a classmate of Christa McAuliffe’s at Marian High School. I will forever remember watching the space shuttle challenger accident unfold live on television at Wayland High School. I have long admired Christa McAuliffe’s legacy as a deeply passionate, inspiring educator, explorer, pioneer and advocate for active, experiential learning. It is truly humbling, and an honor, to be in a position to lead her namesake charter school in Framingham; I will strive to be worthy of having my name attached to such an impactful scientist and educator and successful charter school,” said Randall.

“After researching and visiting the McAuliffe Charter School, I was deeply impressed with the staff, students and parents’ commitment to its mission. There is a great deal of pride in the school’s history of success and its unique programs to advance middle school students’ academic and social emotional growth,” said Randall.

Christa McAuliffe Charter School is a middle school for students in grades 6-7-8. Students are admitted via a blind lottery. Students in the core communities of Framingham, Ashland, Natick, Sudbury, Holliston, Hopkinton, Marlborough, and Southborough.
