FRAMINGHAM — Good eyesight and the ability to use our eyes effectively by scanning the road is critical to driving safely–and to protecting pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and fellow motorists.

Most of us find that our eyesight declines as we age, and many adults discover that as they get older, their peripheral vision and ability to see clearly at night diminishes.

Traffic deaths and injuries are on the rise in Massachusetts and across the country, and distracted and impaired driving remain persistent problems.

Research tells us that 30 percent of drivers and riders don’t see as well as they could, and focusing on and scanning the road to anticipate stopping for pedestrians and allowing a safe buffer for cyclists is essential to keeping all road users safe. For all of these reasons, the ability to sharpen and enhance our vision as much as possible is vital.

With that in mind, AAA Northeast is joining LensCrafters to launch a “See Clearly, Drive Safely” campaign that aims to encourage regular eye exams and to correct, protect and enhance the vision of drivers, walkers, and riders. Consumers can shop for eye wear in person or on-line, and LensCrafters can help develop a personalized solution to enhance safe driving and riding for all. Worried about cost? LensCrafters offers significant discounts off eyeware.
