FRAMINGHAM – John F. Kelley, Jr., 91, a longtime Framingham resident died on Saturday, June 4, 2022 from declining health and a broken heart after suddenly losing his late wife Catherine R. (Feroleto) Kelley in December of 2020.

Born and raised in Cambridge, he was the son of the late John F. & Anna G. (Burley) Kelley.

John was a graduate of Cambridge High and Latin, and met his beloved Catherine in 1946. He studied political science at Suffolk University and after completing his studies, joined the Army.

At the completion of his service, he married Catherine in Cambridge and began his working career with Lewis Boyle/Hyster in Waltham. Together they settled in Framingham in 1975 where they raised their five girls.

John was a hard worker, and upon his retirement he went to work for the Middlesex News for 12 years. He loved a good joke and his sense of humor filled every room. John preferred to be home with his family, but fell in love with Hawaii, where he and Catherine would visit every year, and renew their wedding vows on their 36th wedding anniversary. He loved Notre Dame, tanning by the pool with Catherine, his Lincoln Town Car, and singing whenever and wherever he felt the need, and who could forget those blue eyes. John made everyone he met feel important and was an incredibly humble person throughout his life.

More than anything, John was the patriarch of his large family and took care of all of them, which was no easy feat. He leaves behind his children, Catherine Stewart & her husband Paul of Mendon, Mary McLaughlin & her husband Mac of Clinton, Lisa Roark & her husband Tom of Michigan, Maureen Kelley of Holliston, and Stephanie Riva & her husband Christopher of Framingham, his grandchildren, Sara and Julie Stewart, Kelley Mullen & her husband Michael, Danielle Kenyon & her husband Tyler, Meaghan Fors & her husband Adam, Shawn Patterson, Connor Kelley, Molly Espinoza & her husband Jovani, Anthony, and Caroline Roark, David, Matthew and Ryan Hunt, and Jessica Auletta & her husband Brandon, his great grandchildren, Anthony, Anna, Hanna, Payton, Paxton, and Melody Grace, his sister, Gertrude “Honey” Mullenmeister, and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his granddaughter, Tina Stewart.

Family and friends will honor and remember John’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Friday, June 10 from 4-8p.m.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Bridget Church, 830 Worcester Road in Framingham on Saturday morning at 11 o’clock.

Interment will follow in Rural Cemetery in Southborough.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in John’s name to The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
