FRAMINGHAM – When looking for some supplemental income in addition to her nail technician job, Deena Phipps, a Framingham native, created Dee Drops, her own jewelry brand.

On her days off, she began creating jewelry, and “through trial and error, I came up with my original design,” said Phipps.

Phipps said she wanted a piece that she could wear “all the time” and would not have to worry about if it would “tarnish or fade.”

While they were first given out as gifts, Dee Drops are now proudly displayed in Phipps’ nail salon, Nails by Deena.

“They took off,” said Phipps.

Launched in 2007, Dee Drops is now entering its 15th year in business. Phipps will soon be celebrating her 12th year being a salon owner, too.

When COVID-19 forced most of the world to shut down, including Phipps’ nail salon, people supported her by buying Dee Drops, which “kept me occupied during lockdown,” added Phipps.

She has also given back to the community.

“I’ve done fundraisers and donated 100% of the proceeds,” she said.

All Dee Drops are hand-strung by Phipps.

“Everyone knows when they see my jewelry that it’s a Dee Drop,” said Phipps. “It connects people positively.”

“I’m so proud of these, and when I see someone wearing one I beam with pride,” said the Framingham designer.

“I love making my jewelry but even more so I love seeing people wear them – it makes me so happy,” she added.

“I’m proud of both businesses I’ve created and really proud of my community,” she said. “Framingham is a great place to live and own a small business.”
