FRAMINGHAM – Arbor Day is marked annually on the last Friday in April, nationally.

The first Arbor Day was held in 1872.

Arbor Day is celebrated in all 50 states. The most common date for the state observance is the last Friday in April — National Arbor Day — but a number of state Arbor Days are at other times to coincide with the best tree planting weather, from January and February in the south to May in the far north.

This year, the City of Framingham marked Arbor day with the pruning of trees at the Macomber Estate property off of Badger Road.

Framingham Department of Public Works employees were joined once again by Keefe Technical students. American Climbers Tree Service also provided assistance.

The students planted a few new trees as well on the property.

The Town of Framingham acquired part of the Macomber Estate, known as Raceland, in 1971 for conservation purposes. The 57-acre acre parcel encompasses meadows, wetlands and upland forest.
