FRAMINGHAM – Framingham Superintendent of Schools Bob Tremblay announced today, April 28, Marybeth O’Brien as the next Principal of Hemenway Elementary School. She starts July 1.

She will replace Principal Liz Simon, who is retiring.

O’Brien is currently a Principal at Gilmore Elementary School in Brockton Public Schools.

Prior to her current role, O’Brien held the Principal and Assistant Principal roles at Huntington and Raymond Elementary Schools in Brockton.

Having received a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Political Philosophy from Northeastern University, she has a Masters Degree from Simmons University in Urban Education and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership and Administration from American International College. O’Brien is currently enrolled in the Boston College Doctoral Program for Educational Leadership, said the district in a press relese.

“The interview process for this position consisted of multiple parts, beginning with a staff and community survey. A Screening Committee, composed of staff members and parents, gathered several times to refine interview questions and meet the candidates,” said the district in a press release.

As a finalist, O’Brien then participated in a ‘Meet the Candidates’ Forum which afforded attendees to ask questions and provide feedback in a survey to Supt. Tremblay, said the press release.

“I am honored and humbled at the opportunity to serve as the educational leader of Hemenway Elementary School,” said Marybeth O’Brien. “Through the selection process, I felt the genuine warmth of the Framingham Public Schools Community. It has been evident that Hemenway is an inclusive environment demonstrating great pride. I look forward to continuing my educational journey in the Framingham Public Schools to learn and grow alongside students, families, and fellow faculty and educators.”
