FRAMINGHAM – Lawrence James Geoghegan, September 11, 1924 – April 19, 2022

Lawrence “Big Larry” Geoghegan was born in Framingham, the son of James and Helena Geoghegan. He grew up on Pleasant Street in Framingham Centre and was a proud graduate of the prestigious Jonathan Maynard School and Framingham High School. He worked for his father’s Sunshine Dairy, a local dairy business, from an early age, and in its latest iteration, Sunshine Farm, well into his 90s.

He graduated from Stockbridge School of Agriculture before joining the United States Air Force during World War II where he was stationed both in England and in France.

Once he returned from the war, Larry attended Babson College for additional study in business. He worked as a milkman at Sunshine Dairy for many years. The family business fell into his hands and he and his wife Kathleen ran a popular Ice Cream Restaurant with the help of some of their children.

Later in his life, he took up a second career as a facilitator manager working with the homeless in SMOC’s Merchant Street Shelter. There he drew on his experience as a businessman, Boy Scout leader and father to oversee and help the homeless with firmness and compassion.

Larry was married for 64 years to the love of his life, Kathleen Kinnarney. He is survived by his nine children: Eileen Geoghegan, Joan Geoghegan, Ann Geoghegan, James Geoghegan, Terry Hawkins (Gary), Mary Westwater (David), Clare Grenier (Ray), Lawrence Geoghegan (Shannon), and Timothy Geoghegan (Tina). Altogether, he leaves 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  He is survived by his sister Jane Cosman of Sherborn and was predeceased by his sisters Margaret Baker, Mary
O’Rourke, Rose Geoghegan and his brother Thomas.

Larry enjoyed driving the backroads of neighboring towns checking in on friends, spreading cheer and a bit of gossip with his easy smile and booming laugh. Local farms were his favorite haunts. One of his passions was riding in the Vermont 100 Mile Competitive Trail Ride in Woodstock Vt. He completed his last 100 Mile Ride at 80 years of age on his horse Doc.

Larry treasured every day of his life with family, animals and the weather on the Sunshine Farm where he will always be remembered for his adventuresome spirit, his sense of fun, and his love of It All.

Visiting hours are Monday April 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Boyle Bros. Funeral Home, 173 Union Ave., Framingham.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday April 26 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Church, 221 Concord St., Framingham with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sherborn.
