FRAMINGHAM – Kenneth Arthur Briggs, 76, passed away peacefully on Saturday April 2, 2022 at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.

Kenneth was born March 25, 1946 at the Framingham Union Hospital in Framingham, son of the late William J.  and Helen Stevens Briggs, and beloved brother to Donald L. Briggs, of Framingham, and Edwin W. Briggs, of Framingham and Cape Porpoise, Maine.

Kenneth was pre-deceased by a son, Paul Joseph “P.J.” Briggs who passed away on October 7, 1993.

Ken proudly served his country in the United States Army in the 1960’s.

He loved all sports, including the game of golf and played as often as possible. As a young man in Framingham, Ken grew up on Lake Waushakum, and, with his brothers, learned to ice skate, but most importantly, he learned to love ice hockey.  Ken was very passionate about the Washington Capital Ice Hockey Team during his lifetime and proudly worked as their Zamboni driver.

Ken loved to travel; his favorite destinations included Key West, Florida and Cape Porpoise, Maine.  He was a huge Jimmy Buffet fan and saw him in concert over 10 times.  Ken will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Left to cherish Ken’s memory are his adoring wife, Mary Catherine Briggs of Surfside Beach; son, Stephen Koplan; grandchildren: Tyson and Avery Koplan, along with nephews, nieces, and other family members: Matthew Briggs, Maynard, Lauren Briggs, Quincy, Karen Briggs, Ashland, as well as The Stevens Family, Canada, and The Bouris Family, Canada.

A Celebration of Ken’s life was held on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Highway, Murrells Inlet, SC.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the P.J. Briggs Scholarship Fund at: https://urec.charlotte.edu/about/pj-briggs-scholarship

Also, donations in Ken’s memory may be made to The Framingham Heart Study, as his parents were two of the original participants in that well-known study.
