BOSTON – The National Weather Service out of Boston/Norton has issued a winter storm watch from Thursday night into Friday night, February 24.

Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches possible in central, eastern, and northeasternMassachusetts.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will be likely for a period of time around the Friday morning commute.

Storm will start with heavy snow during pre-dawn hours, then changes to a wintry mix south of Mass Pike.

Temperatures today were record-breaking in both Boston and Worcester, and even here in MetroWest.

National Weather Service has Worcester at 65°F (previous high was 64°F in 2017) and Boston at 69°F (previous high was 68°F in 2017).

On Friday, forecasters said we’ll see snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 2 p.m., then snow and sleet between 2 to 3 p.m., then snow likely after 3p.m.

The snow could be heavy at times. High near 32. East wind 8 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. New snow and sleet accumulation of 5 to 9 inches possible.

Snow continues into Friday night until at least 10 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 13. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday will be clear, sunny, but cold with temperatures not reaching 30 degrees.
