ASHLAND – Doris (Stowell) Quain, 97, of Bradford, Vermont, longtime resident of Ashland, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 at her home.

She was the daughter of the late Vernal C. Stowell and Lila (Willis) Leatherman, and wife of the late Edward W. Quain who died in 1996.

Doris was known for her sense of humor and made many friends throughout the years.  She worked as a waitress at Marconi’s Restaurant for 32 years and was formerly an active member of the Federated Church in Ashland.

The couple enjoyed vacationing in Wolfeboro, NH during the summers.   In later years, one of Doris’ favorite memories was sitting on the screened porch of their cottage.

The Quains raised their family and resided in Ashland from 1952 until retiring to Wolfeboro, NH in 1993.  Doris returned to Ashland and lived for many years at Ashland House.

In 2014, she moved to Vermont to be close to her daughters.

She is survived by three daughters: Marilyn Huntington of Maine, Diane Fraley and her partner, Anthony Brainerd of Bradford, VT and Pamela Davis and her partner, Thomas Stearns of Chelsea, VT, eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.  She was also the mother of the late Nancy Lavallee who died in 2014.  She was also pre-deceased by her siblings: Douglas Stowell, Shirley Dancer, Philip Stowell and Richard Stowell.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Matarese Funeral Home in Ashland.

Donations in her memory may be made to The Framingham Heart Study or the American Heart Association. https://heart.org/
