FRAMINGHAM – District 1 City Councilor Christine Long was voted chair of the City Council’s planning & zoning subcommittee last night, February 7.

The subcommittee was recently expanded to 5 members from its 3 members last term.

The subcommittee is tasked with considering all proposed amendments to the zoning ordinances, zoning map, land use and planning, and special permits and any other such matters as may be referred to it by the full Council or the Council Chair Phil Ottaviani Jr.

District 9 City Councilor Tracey Bryant was voted vice chair of the subcommittee.

At-large City Councilor Janet Leombruno nominated Long and Bryant for the leadership positions. The votes were 5-0.

The subcommittee has 3 women and 2 men. The other committee members are District 2 City Councilor Cesar Stewart-Morales and District 4 City Councilor Michael Cannon, who started the meeting as the member of the subcommittee with the longest tenure on the City Council.

Councilor Long was chair of the subcommittee in 2020-2021.

Long, a former Planning Board chair, convened 19 subcommittee meetings in 2020 and 18 meetings in 2021.

The subcommittee made several recommendations to the full 11-member City Council last session.

Zoning changes required a 2/3rd vote of the City Council or 8 out of the 11 members.
