ASHLAND – Walter B. Winchenbach Jr., 84 years old, of Upton formally of Ashland and Framingham, died January 29, 2022 peacefully at home. 

He was the husband of Anne E. (Barrett) Winchenbach.

Walter was born and raised in Framingham, the son of the late Walter and Mary (Sinclair) Winchenbach.  He was a 1955 graduate of Framingham High School and graduated with his BS in electrical engineering and his MBA from Northeastern University. 

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving as staff sergeant on active duty in Germany, North Africa and the United States from 1955-1959, and on reserve status until 1963.

Walter retired in 1998 after 40 years with Hewlett Packard Company where he worked in engineering and management capacities and on corporate management councils for 25 years. 

He also was a senior lecturer at Northeastern University, instructing courses in materials management for 17 years.

 In addition to being a lifelong avid golfer, he was a longtime member of Saint Cecelia’s parish in Ashland and an active member of Saint Gabriel’s parish in Upton. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his five children, Walter B. Winchenbach III of Whittier, California, Christopher B. Winchenbach of Shrewsbury, Maria E. Farragher and her husband David of Upton, Jennifer A Bolton and her husband Todd of Upton, and Jonathan Winchenbach and his wife Marjorie of Holliston.  He leaves nine beloved grandchildren, Kyle and Kristine Winchenbach of Shrewsbury, Cullen, Kaelan and Kerri Farragher of Upton, Delaney and Lily Bolton of Upton, and Abigail and Elizabeth Winchenbach of Holliston.  He is also survived by a sister Lynne F. Winchenbach of Westborough, and is predeceased by his sister Dorothy Munson, brother James Winchenbach and daughter-in-law Lynn Winchenbach.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Sat. Feb. 5 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Gabriel Parish, 151 Mendon Street in Upton with burial to follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. 

Visiting hours will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street in Ashland. Face Masks Are Required For All Services
