FRAMINGHAM – A principal with the Framingham Public Schools since 2011 is a finalist for a principal post in another school district, he announced today, January 27.

Brophy Elementary School Principal Frank Rothwell informed staff he is a finalist for a position outside of the Framingham Public Schools.

“I am emailing to let you know that I recently learned of an interesting opportunity for a principalship in a nearby school district. Earlier today, I was named a finalist for the position,” wrote Rothwell to staff just after 7 p.m.

The email did not state what school district.

Former Superintendent of Schools Steven Hiersche appointed Rothwell Brophy Principal, after he served as interim principal at the K-5 school for a year.

Rothwell has been with the public school district since 1999, when he was hired as teacher at Framingham High School. he later became department head and then promoted to vice principal in 2004. He served in that position until summer 2010.

“The new opportunity would provide me a chance to lead in a new building and I am interested in the challenges the move and working in a new school would bring,” wrote Rothwell.

The Brophy Principal said if he is selected he would begin the new job with the 2022-2023 school year.

“Please rest assured that regardless of the outcome, my dedication to the students, families, and staff in Brophy community remains unwavering,” wrote Rothwell.

Last year, Hemenway Elementary School Principal announced she was retiring at the end of the school year in June 2022. The position was posted this week.
