FRAMINGHAM – Mary J. (Napolitano) Merchant, age 94, a native of Framingham, died, Friday January 21st, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Manor.

Mary was the widow of Charles A. Merchant to whom she was married for 64 years.

She was the daughter of Michael and Theresa (Strescino) Napolitano.

Mary graduated from Weymouth High School in 1945, although she attended Framingham schools for all but her senior year.

Her working career included The Sprague Company of Boston, the Singer Sewing Company, as a sewing teacher, and Administrative Secretary to the Principal of Framingham North High School where she was much loved by students and staff alike.

Mary was an avid gardener and was a lifelong member of the Framingham Garden Club. She was an accomplished seamstress, and she enjoyed golf, playing bridge and spending time with her family and friends.

Mary was a long-time member of St. Jeremiah Church in Framingham where she was a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the choir.

For the past 17 years she was a member of St. George Parish.

Mary leaves behind one son, Paul C. Merchant of Denver CO, and two daughters, Catherine M. Hiers and her husband Stan, of Ashland , and Joan M. Buzzell of Westborough; Five grandchildren, Christopher Merchant of Denver CO, Timothy Anderson of Framingham, Kevin Buzzell of Johnston, RI, Sarah Hiers of Portland, ME, Daniel Hiers of Austin, TX; a great granddaughter, Kenna Sparks, and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Arthur Napolitano, Gildo Napolitano, Hugo Napolitano, Alfred Napolitano, Elda Zugale and Catherine McGinty.

Mary was the grandmother of the late Jennifer Merchant.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours at the Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech Street, Framingham on Wednesday February 2, 2022 from 8:30 am to 9:30am.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am in St. George’s Church, 74 School Street, Framingham (Saxonville).

Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Framingham.
