NATICK – Edward “Ned” Mahoney, 92, of Natick passed away peacefully at his beloved lake front home surrounded by family and friends on January 19, 2022.
Born on June 18, 1929, in Natick and raised in Wellesley until his high school years when he graduated from Natick High School.
Ned was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Mahoney, and brother of the late Mary Duffy and Thomas Mahoney Jr. and.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Barbara (Krauss) Mahoney Loving father of Kevin Mahoney and his wife Sharon of Peoria AZ, the late Kathleen Sorabella and Carl of Natick, Marcia Haines and her husband Michael of Jupiter Fl, Thomas Mahoney and his wife Michelle of Sandwich Kara Malcolm and her husband Chip of Natick, devoted grandfather of Madison Mahoney and Dylan Hendricks-Mahoney, Michael Gray and Renny Haines, Thomas Jr, Margaret and Devin Mahoney, and Carl Bryce, Edward Brauer, Charles Brennan, and Barbara Malcolm. Along with many very dear friends and neighbors. Also survived by several nieces and a nephew.
Ned was a 1948 graduate of Natick High School.
He enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served during the Korean Conflict.
After serving his country, Ned attended Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
It was during a summer job as an intern where Ned discovered an opportunity that turned into a lifelong career working as a draftsman with Raytheon in Wayland until retirement.
In his youth, Ned enjoyed restoring sailboats. His love for the ocean and sailing led him to explore the waters off Cape Cod and the Islands.
As a former Natick Redmen football player, he could be spotted sporting his Natick pride at Friday night games over the years. Ned thoroughly enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren carrying on the legacy of Natick sports.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at a later date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Brookhaven Hospice and Veteran’s Association.
