NATICK – The Town of Natick is seeking candidates for the role of Deputy Chief of Police.  

This is a newly-cerated position. The department has no captains, so the highest rank at this time is Lieutenant.

The City of Framingham in comparison has three deputy police chiefs. It has no captains either.

The ideal candidate should be a proven leader with exceptional management, interpersonal, and communication skills and demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with government officials, community and civic groups (including private-sector partners), and police department employees.

Under the direction of the Chief of Police, the principal responsibilities of the Deputy Chief of Police shall include, but not be limited to, assisting the Chief of Police on daily management the department , resolving and coordinating issues, concerns and grievances from the collective bargaining representatives, and providing training and motivation.

The successful candidate is required to frequently work outside of normal business hours and is on call for emergencies at all times. 

The ideal candidate will have significant leadership experience as a sworn police officer and a demonstrated record of exceptional personal integrity, high ethical standards, and a commitment to continuous learning and education.

The position is non-union, as is the Chief of Police post.

Candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree preferred, in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Public Administration or related field. Candidates should have the minimum rank of sergeant.    

Candidates should possess a valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license and a icense to carry a firearm, training and qualification in the use of handguns

Salary is commensurate with experience and subject to successful negotiations, but the salary range is 6-figures up to $159,500 a year.
